Take a stock trading at $500. The $500 row is the at-the-money row. On the call side it might read bid $5.00, ask $5.10 — a tight spread, because at-the-money contracts trade constantly and market makers compete to quote them. Volume counts contracts traded today; open interest counts contracts outstanding across all days, updated overnight. A strike showing volume of 4,000 against open interest of 25,000 is an active, established line.

Now look at the deep in-the-money $400 call: bid $99.50, ask $101.00. The $1.50 spread is not an error. Almost all of that option's value is intrinsic — it moves nearly one-for-one with the stock — so traders who want stock exposure simply trade the stock, volume dries up, and quotes widen. Wide markets on deep in-the-money strikes are the norm, a point covered further in liquidity and spreads.

Reading the columns: the bid is what a seller receives and the ask is what a buyer pays, each quoted per share on a 100-share contract, so a $5.10 ask costs $510. Open interest shows where positions already live.

The advanced toggle adds implied volatility and the five greeks for each contract. Delta is the quickest orientation: 0.50 marks at the money, 0.25 well out of the money, 0.90 deep in — a moneyness scale that works on any stock at any price.

A few conventions keep chain-reading honest. The last-trade price can be hours stale on an inactive strike; the bid-ask pair is the live statement of value, and the midpoint is the usual single-number summary. Open interest is computed by the clearing house after each session, so it reflects yesterday's positions rather than today's trading. All quotes on Options Band are Cboe delayed data, typically around 15 minutes behind the live market.

Options Band deliberately trims the table to strikes within ±50% of the current stock price. Strikes beyond that range exist, but they are mostly near-zero bids or unquoted placeholders; hiding them keeps the at-the-money region — where nearly all the information is — on screen. The at-the-money row is simply the strike closest to the last stock price, and it shifts as the stock moves.

One misreading to avoid: a wide spread on a deep in-the-money option does not mean the option is mispriced, and heavy volume at a strike does not by itself reveal whether traders were buying or selling there. The chain shows where activity and positioning sit; it does not say why.
