Options Band is an independent options-market analytics and education platform built on one idea: we show you what the options market is pricing — we never tell you what to trade.
What this site does
Option prices contain information: how large a move the market expects, by when, with what probability, and where positions are concentrated. That information is usually locked behind professional terminals and jargon. We compute it from delayed exchange data, draw it, and explain it in plain English — for 315 widely traded US stocks, ETFs and indexes.
What makes it different
Market expectations. Expected moves, implied volatility, open interest, probabilities — what the market currently prices.
Historical context. Every trading day we snapshot those expectations before outcomes are known, then score them against what actually happened — an append-only record (10.27K snapshots and counting). You can check the market's track record, and ours.
Understanding. Every metric links to a plain-English explainer (27 topics) and a formal methodology page with formulas, assumptions and limitations.
There is deliberately no fourth category. No trade ideas, no ratings, no "top plays" — the product is information, and the conclusions are yours.
Where the data comes from
Options chains are Cboe delayed data; equity quotes, price history, profiles and earnings dates come from Financial Modeling Prep. Everything derived from them — expected moves, IV30, skew, probabilities, the historical database — is computed by this site and versioned. Full detail on the Data Sources and Methodology pages.
Honesty rules we hold ourselves to
- Delayed data is labeled delayed; stale data is flagged, never silently substituted.
- A missing value shows a dash and the reason — never an invented number.
- Historical records begin the day we started recording them; nothing is backfilled to look older than it is.
- News is real, sourced and linked out; our AI-written data briefs are labeled as ours.
- Nothing on the site is investment advice, and an automated language check enforces it.
